Navigating the Dark Side of Business

The sun is setting earlier now, which means we live more of our lives in the dark.

That’s why we’re talking about the challenges of being in business. The hard stuff. The dark stuff. Just every human being has a dark side, every business does too. You know what these things are – it’s what we avoid sharing in hopes no one will notice. It’s what we avoid saying – or even thinking – in hopes that the difficult things might just vanish before we need to deal with them.

I do it, too.

But, my friends, we all know that bringing these secrets into the light takes some of the fear away, because we finally realize we’re not alone. You’re not alone, and neither am I. Here at The Well, we’re all in this together.

I hope it doesn’t come across as jaded when I talk about the dark side of business. I prefer to think of myself as a realist. I am a dreamer, but a very practical one. I’m confident in what my talents are, and I can admit that there are some things I am really, truly terrible at.

I feel so fortunate to have created this business with some incredible women who allow me to step into my strengths. Here. I’ve been able to focus on the few very specific things that I’m good. (Just a few things, friends. That’s it.)

I know it sounds wonderful, and it is. But is everything perfect? Absolutely not. I don’t know of a single entrepreneur who reaches a point where they can say without a doubt that they have it all figured out. That success is guaranteed and they can ride this sweet train for the rest of their days.

Instead, most of us grapple with the darkness of self-doubt, fear of failure, and certainly the financial concerns of keeping a business afloat. These are the things that keep me up at night.

Maybe they keep you awake sometimes, too?

As I said, I certainly don’t have it all figured out, but I do have some suggestions if you’re seeking out more of the light.

The first step is learning to trust yourself. It’s a toughie, I know, but you’re doing all this for a reason. Businesses are built on trust, by a lot of people who don’t trust themselves. I’m five years in and I’m just starting to feel more secure believing in myself. Maybe you figured it out faster. (If you did, that’s awesome and I would love to know your secret!)

The second step is asking for help. We’re making it easy by going first:

We need your help.

Yes, you. ALL of you.

You, and you, and you…

and those of you thinking ‘certainly not me’ - definitely YOU!

We need your help in spreading the word of the goodness of The Well. Please reach out your friends and colleagues and refer them to our community. Bring them to an event or invite them to become a member.

And, PS, if you’re reading this but you’re not a member yet, why not? You’d love it here!

At The Well, we truly want the best for you. Your wellness is our priority and our raison dêtre. We created our new Working Well Mastermind format to help you battle against any darkness your business is up against. It allows you to share your struggles, a recent win, and ask your community for help.

Like it or not, we all have to go through the darkness in business sometimes. Let us be a light that shows you the way forward.

Members, remember to RSVP to the next Mastermind on Mighty Networks. Not a member Your first event is on the house, so please join us. We’d love to welcome you to our community of like-minded women who get what you’re going through.
