Women Supporting Women

What does it look like for women to rise together? At The Well we see it as generosity, sometimes sacrifice, and always grace.

Last fall as we were busy planning the Harvest Feast WellFed event, I was visiting with one of our Well Women, Daria Malin, and she mentioned this brilliant name for a budding concept we had.

The Champion Well Woman

Essentially, a woman purchases a one year Champion Subscription (paid monthly or in full) knowing all too well she doesn’t have a ton of time to attend our gatherings. However, she is passionate about women finding who they were made to be, being supported in their dreams, and rising alongside her community. She signs on, and we find a women to partner her with. There is no expectation of her and her partner, they are simply sharing a subscription and both benefitting. The Champion receives a spot on our Well Woman Directory, events, and the Championed woman receives all the support and programming she can handle!

I mean, what could be better?!

Guess what else, we have our first Championed woman and I am so excited to present her to you today!

Meet Nazanin, and here is some of her story (in her own words):

As a child, I always loved design and colour. I knew that I should work in the field of art, and I was artistic, as well as an action-oriented. I always liked a work of art which included working with my hands for creation my ideas.

I studied clothing design at university.

After my education, very accidentally, my first job experience was in the field of interior design. I worked there as a consultant for buying and choosing nice colour for parquet flooring, lights, curtains, and that sort of thing.

What I liked the most interior design is that, it is related to creation of space. By using raw or recyclable material and by playing with light, you can develop an environment based on the mood you want to have in the space, whether relaxing or existing.

I loved the job more than working inline with my courses of study. However, financial reasons and for lack of job opportunities I couldn’t stay in the job and I turned back to fashion design for a period of time .

From 2010 to 2012, I ran a clothing design and sewing gallery of my own, and I managed several employees. The experience taught me about team work, and how to lead a group to get the best result for a project.

I used my experience in colour schemes, and my artistic ideas to utilize a combination of eastern and western themes in various projects. I also have experience in bridal design from when I lived in Turkey. -Nazanin

Both these dresses were Nazanin’s first experience in wedding dress design and made by hand.

It’s important to note that she has only recently arrived in Canada in the past month. She appreciates how kind Canadians are, and has met lovely women at our Coffee & Connection which she uses as an opportunity to practice her english.

The ability to provide space for refugees, as Nazanin is, allowing them to feel safe and accepted for who they are, is a dream come true for The Well. It’s more than we ever could have asked for. Reflecting on these valuable and life altering things are so important in a time of world crisis like we are in.

The Well is tackling many moments & interactions that may seem small at first but provide world changing results.

If you’d like to meet Nazanin, hop on to an online Coffee & Connection, she may just be there to inspire you!
